Lewis and Marianna Abrahamyan warming up for Afterlife James MacMillan’s Cumnock Tryst Festival

Afterlife is a cutting - edge new music and film project inspired by David Eagleman’s book ‘Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives’. Commissioned and devised by saxophonist Lewis Banks, Afterlife features new music by the Scottish composer Jay Capperauld, and a gripping new film from Manchester-based director Paul Wright, exploring both the journey to the afterlife and the possible scenarios we could find ourselves in.

Pushing our expectations of the recital format to it’s limit, Afterlife is a multi - sensory experience, combining new music, filmic interludes and virtuoso performers into an exhilarating, moving, and ultimately thought - provoking performance

Jay Capperauld’s long suite for piano and alto saxophone is a big, demanding work, especially for the players, Marianna Abrahamyan and the reedsman Lewis Banks, who commissioned it...Afterlife is a package that would sit well in many other contexts and will reward further listening
